Shower

Shower

Birds singing loudly this morning
yet the sun is not yet crowning.
Upon investigation there's a shower.
Must be birds heard singing in the shower.

Daylight finally breaks
but the sun is not quite awake.
Birds chirp louder calling the sun,
singing while the shower runs.

Fluffing feathers, shaking off
spring's downpour of raindrops,
glad tweets whistle in the shower,
their chirps grow louder and louder.

A good day to catch a few more winks
except the birds joyfully think
of new songs to sing
this rainy day in spring.

The shower turns into a downpour.
This morning's songs no longer heard.
The flock of cheerful songsters
temporarily disturbed.

But they will be back again
after the shower of rain
or when the sun peaks out
from the cloud cover tarp.

And I will be happy to hear
their songs of jubilant cheer
for they teach that singing is a happy refrain
any hour...or in the shower...or in the rain.

* * * * *

I'm singing in the rain
Just singing in the rain
what a glorious feelin'
I'm happy again... (Gene Kelly)

When was the last time you sang? Try it.
You'll find you'll be happier, I bet.
The old songs, like the one suggested above,
are snappy and evoke smiles on your mug.

Don't pick one of cheating and despair.
Pick a song of happiness and cheer.
Your heart will feel lighter
and your face will be brighter.

The worries of the day
will quickly slip away
when there's a song
on your tongue.

...burst into jubilant song with music...
Psalm 98:4

Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise.
James 5:13

Winter Wonderland

For friends and family in the southeast blizzard this weekend.

Winter Wonderland

Evergreens seen wearing powdery poufy gowns
for snowflakes piled during the night in my town.
No black winding ribbon streets seen
for the snow makes everything clean.
And silence settles
over the meadows.

Everything’s covered with a soft blanket
like the inner batting of a warm quilt.
A stillness can be heard –
earth being comforted
with this snow-white soft blanket spread
over the garden’s winter beds.

It’s quiet, no songs heard
from winter-time birds
for creatures are hibernating
hidden under this covering.
The sky’s heavy laden.
No bright sun peaking.

There are snow cones
on fence posts formed
and flower pots
wearing cone hats.
A party awaits.
Don’t you be late!

Out comes the scarves and mittens,
warm boots and woolen leggings
for a day of fun is planned.
Don’t forget the toboggan.
Snow cones are sampled.
There’s snowballs ample.

Soon Frosty takes shape.
With a bright scarf he’s draped.
He oversees his kingdom
until the temperature warms
then he disappears
until next year.

Someone else does appear
with two pink cheeks dear,
and a cold
red nose,
without a hat and clothes soaking wet
demanding a cup of hot chocolate.

Silence returns to the garden
now overseen by a snowman.
The undisturbed covering
now with footprints trampling.
A fun memory was made today.
That makes the cold of winter okay.

* * * * *
A snow day!
Hooray!
Rather you consider snow a trick or a treat
whichever you might choose – it still is neat!
Little frozen wisps of snowy white fluff
piled high might cause you to get stuck.
Created by God for our enjoyment
while others find extra employment.

God’s voice thunders in marvelous ways;
he does great things beyond our understanding.
He says to the snow, “Fall on the earth”…
The animals take cover;
they remain in their dens…
The breath of God produces ice,
and the broad waters become frozen…
Job 37:5-10

Crows

CROWS

Atop the weathered, dead skeleton of a tree
sits a black form of a crow cawing freely.
Apropos, this lifeless tree,
a perch for this vulture greedy.

Dead, without life, this tree
now a skeleton of what it used to be.
Black, as night, this crow
born to be many creatures unsuspecting foe.

There he sits surveying his kingdom,
inbred with an inbuilt wisdom,
searching for a free dinner
as his beady eyes tour.

Caw-caw he loudly yells.
His greediness soon quelled.
This crow once still
spies roadkill.

Spreading his wings
he swoops in
to dine
on his find.

Answering the call of nature,
knowing tomorrow there's more,
while thinning out over-population naturally,
this gluttonous crow fills his greedy belly.

His hunt successful
until tomorrow.
He lifts his wings and flies
off into the gray skies.

* * * * *

Solomon stated there is nothing new under the sun.
From the beginning of time crows have a purpose under the sun.
Something becomes their victim,
though that thought isn't welcome.

Despite our best attempts, life isn't always fair.
Many unforeseen circumstances bring about despair.
It's life's joys that keep us going
when it seems our boat isn't rowing.

There's a daily choice to make:
do we focus on what we hate
or do we look for what's right
instead of the darkness of night.

Consider the black and white keys of the piano,
producing music, both major and minor together.
Instead of discord, together pleasing to the ears -
with more white (major) keys, just as in life appears.

Choose joy.
Enjoy.
Your circumstances are temporary.
Your outlook on life complimentary.

Yes, we live in an evil world.
All around us is discord.
Yet there is joy to be found.
It's what makes the world go round.

From crows
to pianos!
Each has a lesson.
Each is a blessing.

I have seen something else under the sun:
The race is not to the swift
or the battle to the strong,
nor does food come to the wise
or wealth to the brilliant
or favor to the learned;
but time and chance happen to them all.
Moreover, no man knows when his hour will come:
As fish are caught in a cruel net,
or birds are taken in a snare,
so men are trapped by evil times
that fall unexpectedly upon them.
Ecclesiastes 9:11-12

There is something else meaningless that occurs on earth:
righteous men who get what the wicked deserve,
and wicked men who get what the righteous deserve.
This too, I say, is meaningless.
So I commend the enjoyment of life,
because nothing is better for a man under the sun
than to eat and drink and be glad.
The joy will accompany him in his work all the days of the life
God has given him under the sun.
Ecclesiastes 8:14-15

Here is the conclusion of the matter:
Fear God and keep his commandments,
for this is the whole duty of man.
Ecclesiastes 12:13

Breakfast

Breakfast

In the newness of the early morning as the sun peeks through
something yummy for breakfast is waiting for the garden crew.
Just who is the garden crew?
Let's take a minute to view.

A morning dew
covers like glue
inviting winged creatures to sip
an early morning refreshment.

Yes, their breakfast awaits
though not served on a plate
being sought after
by garden creatures.

Happy bees hum
in golden blossoms
in everyone's vegetable garden.
Gardeners gratefully welcome.

Do take a minute to listen
to their harmonious drone
as they sip from a cup of yellow pollen
a breakfast filled with good-for-you nutrition.

A just-hatched butterfly seeks morning nourishment
from purple cone flowers absent of scent
then off to the garden phlox, which he seems to like best,
before visiting the butterfly bush for breakfast.

Watch him float and glide
as on the breeze he rides
satisfying his hunger
on his morning garden tour.

A hummingbird dines
on red trumpet vine
where ants share a feast
every day of the week.

If you're wearing a red or pink shirt,
beware:  those hummingbirds might flirt
thinking you're the prettiest flower
of all that grows in your bower.

Mama and papa wren
busily attend
their brood of hungry beaks
as white grubs they seek.

Hear their "me, me, me"
sounding quite greedy
as mama and papa take turns
feeding their offspring this morn.

While robins seek earthworms
to feed starving newborns
a protein breakfast
so they will grow fast.

Do watch from a distance
for robins have an instinct
to protect their young
from potential harm.

Other birds dine
on seeds they find,
heard singing a happy song of praise
to the Creator of all their days.

These and many more
seek breakfast outdoors
alfresco,
perfecto.

Do take time to watch this muse (wonder)
as a motion picture is produced
every morning as breakfast is found
around the world, in every town.

* * * * *

In this world of uncertainty,
God shows us examples of His faithfulness
so that we will have a guarantee,
an assurance, to not worry – but to trust.

Do not worry about tomorrow.
Matthew 6:34

Shine

Not a gardening poem.
For another poet who shines in the midst of troubles,
who's an inspiration to me.
Thank You, Lucinda.
Check out Lucinda Berry Hill's Coffee With Jesus facebook page.

Shine

Shine in the midst of your troubles
proclaiming that God is able.
Others will see your example
for when life seems to be impossible
they need a light that shines forth
showing them troubles have worth,
giving hope in their heartaches,
bringing God's peace to their hearts.

Shine in your words, deeds, and actions
for others you'll be attracting
as you shine bright with God's light
always proclaiming what's right,
offering encouragement
to those you have met
with loving understanding and
often giving a helping hand.

Others will see your passion
when as a star you do shine -
so shine bright as the stars
today right where you are.
God's purpose for you from your birth
is to shine like stars in the universe
to be a shining light in the darkness
so be a light and shine, shine forth.

Refrain:
Always be loving, patient, and kind
for God's plan for you is to shine.
Ambassadors in the family of faith
always illuminating God's truth.
God's purpose for you from your birth
is to shine like stars in the universe,
to be a shining light in the darkness
so be a light and shine, shine forth.

Shine like stars in the universe.
Philippians 2:15

We are therefore Christ's ambassadors.
II Corinthians 5:20

Forecasters

Forecasters

Seen crossing the road there
on a day that's fair
do beware
for there's
weather
forecasters
which will share
though unaware.

Wearing black and brown fur/hair
do take a second look, stare
for they'll declare
when you compare
what will come this upcoming winter,
rather mild or harsh weather,
by what they wear -
precisely, I swear.

Now they're not as fast as a hare
(who may be seen with brown hair)
as they journey from here to there
determined on days sunny and fair
to cross the road or the town square.
Rather, they're rather
slow as they crawl there
down by your feet so be aware
otherwise their innards you'll wear.

Dependent on the strips these forecasters wear
we can forecast the upcoming weather.
They're known as an accurate forecaster.
If you need proof, just ask an old timer.
Just who is it that would dare
to cross the road without a care
while quietly declares?
It's a wooly bear.

Do you know why the wooly bear crossed the road?
To accurately forecast the weather, we're told,
for we know quite often the weather forecasters
inaccurately report tomorrow's weather.

* * * * *

What gets complained about more than taxes?
It's something else that everyday taxes.
It's the weather -
sometimes a bother,
but do we ever stop to consider
the daily weather's great Creator?

The One who created the sun, the rain, the snow,
also created the stormy winds which blow,
the thunder and lightning which cools the earth,
and the rainbow's promise when the sun shines forth
as stormy weather
doesn't last forever.

He created the clouds in the heavens above
filled with showers of his ever-present love
for rain refreshes the earth
in turn bringing forth new birth
seen each year when flowers and trees
perfume the air when there's a breeze.

The first snowfall each season
is another reason
to think of the Creator of delights
as the first snow somehow delights,
though perhaps not sleet or hail
if winter ice impales.

Then days too hot to go outside
or days too cold, we stay inside.
The days we play under the sun
add up to many days having fun
though we tend to complain
when too much rain rains.

Aren't we in essence complaining about God
when about the weather we grumble so hard?
It's something everyone is guilty of
for it seems it's the pleasant days we love.
And if we tend to grumble about the weather
it seems we tend to grumble about whatever.

Grumble or
murmur
we are often warned against
as so complaining, for instance.
Do not
means to stop.

Grumbling, murmuring, complaining
means our discontentment is showing,
means we're lack faith and trust
that God knows what is best for us.
Whereas thanking or praising
means believing faith is showing.

As Philippians 2:15 says,
"shine like stars in the universe".
So turn that habit, that curse
into a blessing, a force
in which others will see
God's goodness, and God only.

Creator of heaven and earth.
Genesis 14:19

Praise the Lord...
lightning and hail, snow and clouds,
stormy winds that do his bidding.
Psalm 148:5

You heavens above, rain down righteousness;
let the clouds shower it down.
Let the earth open wide,
let salvation spring up,
let righteousness grow with it;
I, the Lord, have created it.
Isaiah 45:8

How long will this wicked community grumble against me?
I have heard the complaints of these grumbling Israelites.
So tell them, 'As surely as I live, declares the Lord,
I will do to you the very things I heard you say.'
Numbers 14:27-28

Do not grumble...
I Corinthians 10:10

Don't grumble against each other...
James 5:9

Do everything without complaining or arguing,
so that you may become blameless and pure,
children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation,
in which you shine like stars in the universe.
Philippians 2:14-15
