Shower

Shower

Birds singing loudly this morning
yet the sun is not yet crowning.
Upon investigation there's a shower.
Must be birds heard singing in the shower.

Daylight finally breaks
but the sun is not awake.
Birds chirp louder calling the sun,
singing while the shower runs.

Fluffing feathers, shaking off
spring's downpour of raindrops
glad tweets whistle in the shower,
their chirps grow louder and louder.

A good day to catch a few more winks
except the birds joyfully think
of new songs to sing
this rainy day in spring.

The shower turns into a downpour.
This morning's songs no longer heard.
The flock of cheerful songsters
temporarily disturbed.

But they will be back again
after the shower of rain
or when the sun peeks out
from the cloud-cover tarp.

And I will be happy to hear
their songs of jubilant cheer
for they teach that singing is a happy refrain
any hour...or in the shower...or in the rain.

* * * * *
I'm singing in the rain
Just singing in the rain
what a glorious feelin'
I'm happy again... (Gene Kelly)

When was the last time you sang? Try it.
You'll find you'll be happier, I bet.
The "old" songs, like the one suggested above,
are snappy and evoke smiles on your mug.

Don't pick one of cheating and despair.
Pick a song of happiness and cheer.
Your heart will feel lighter
and your face will be brighter.

The worries of the day
will quickly slip away
when there's a song
on your tongue.

...burst into jubilant song with music...
Psalm 98:4

Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise.

James 5:13

Morning

Morning

Yesterday a rain shower watered the earth;
early this morning you can see new birth
for pretty flowers and green grass appear
after yesterday's shower disappeared.
Yesterday's falling rain worked its magic.
Listen, there's water babbling in the creek.

This morning the bright warm rays of the sun
chased away the gloom from the wet rain.
Together they work in harmony
to grow pretty flowers and greenery.
If you take a deep breath,
you'll smell earthworms in the earth.

One's spirits lift
as the fog lifts
for creation in all its glory
seems to be somewhat in a hurry
to get another day underway
as the darkness quickly slips away.

The sun removes the remaining shadows
as morning peeks over the willow.
Yesterday rain everything fed.
Today a cloudless sky overhead.
It's the dawning of a new day today
seen in the morning's waking sun rays.

Morning brings
many blessings.
Is that why birds sing
early in the morning?
Perhaps they don't want to forget a one
for their song is one of thankfulness all day long.

Do they have a lesson
to teach to humans?
To look for blessings
instead of stressing
over what they have no charge of
but to trust in the Lord above.

* * * * *
Whatever a given day may bring
God is there with you in everything.
You are not meant to carry your burden alone
for God will be there with you, by your side all along
to comfort, strengthen, guide
when in Him you abide.

My devotions this morning were from I Corinthians 13
where Paul talks about “faith to move mountains.”
That means believing faith to trust God to meet whatever our needs.
God is waiting to lift whatever burden when you in prayer plead.
If your mountain is physical, financial, or relational,
let God move your mountain for with God all things are possible.

He is like the light of morning at sunrise
on a cloudless morning,
like the brightness after rain
that brings the grass from the earth.
II Samuel 23:4

So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Isaiah 41:10

...faith that can move mountains...

I Corinthians 13:2

Seasons

Seasons

It's winter
and burr
but gardeners
are not deterred
for in their dreams
they often dream
of gardening under the sunbeams
after the rain leaves the earth fresh and clean.

It's spring
which brings
gardeners out doors
to joyfully explore
the flower bulbs giving birth
from the newly awakened earth
and they look to see
the fat buds on trees.

It's summer
and gardeners
are busy everyday
weeding under the sun's rays
or gathering the garden's bounty.
Each year God provides with plenty.
So much to be thankful for.
God's blessings everyday pour.

It's autumn
when the sun
sets earlier each day
painting sky blue pink rays,
when gardeners harvest -
there's no time to rest -
the fruits of their labor
over which they labored.

Come winter, spring, summer, or fall
you'll find gardeners are joyful
and thankful too
for God's kindness through
another filled-with-surprises year
when flowers and vegetables appeared
from the earth
giving birth.

When the earth
does give birth
it's God, the Creator, showing kindness
to each and every one of us
for God planned it that way
when he spoke that day:
Let the earth
bring forth...

* * * * *

O the kindness of God!
A thousand times more than we deserve for God is merciful.
He is patient beyond human understanding.

On the path we trod
we all doubt, we want our own way, not content, and ungrateful
yet God remains unconditionally loving.

We run around in a fog -
without seeking God - until heavy burdens fill our cup full
then we find ourselves seeking God and praying.

O the kindness of God
that He was waiting all the time, despite our being prideful,
to be our burden bearer for God is caring.

You'll find in your journey through the wilderness
that when times are bad and your life is a mess
that you will seek the Lord more and more
and you'll find He has good things in store.

It's when times are good that you need to be on the look out
for that's when we neglect to pray as we go about.
We take the kindness of God for granted.
Our relationship with God becomes slanted.

Just as the Israelites were in their journey through the wilderness.
After being obstinate they would draw near to God and confess.
They learned about God's kindness when seasons were hard.
When seasons were good, their hearts became hard.

Take note of the kindness of God today.
Let it envelop you like a hug and stay.
If you need to confess, don't delay.
God is waiting to hear from you today.

And God said,
Let the earth bring forth grass,
the herb yielding seed,
and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind,
whose seed is in itself, upon the earth;
and it was so.
Genesis 1:11

He (God) has shown kindness by
giving you rain from heaven
and crops in their seasons;
he provides you with plenty of food
and fills your hearts with joy.
Acts 14:17

Do you show contempt
for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience,
not realizing that God's kindness leads you toward repentance?
Romans 2:4

Out of Hibernation

Out of Hibernation

Yesterday a winter wonderland
as snowflakes piled up like white sand.
The creatures hibernated outside
as people hibernated inside.

Too cold to venture out.
A snow day so stayed put.
Traffic minimal.
View sensational.

Everything’s covered in white -
a pretty, peaceful sight.
Looks like a white Christmas
has descended on us.

Tree limbs frosted white.
Evergreens now iced.
Like frosting on a cake
while creatures hibernate.

Quiet and still.
No movement spills.
No birds are seen
in the evergreens.

Today, though, many black birds flock
in the crab apple tree out back.
Ravenous from yesterday’s fasting
they feast then are seen sharing.

For more birds wait their turn
this sunny winter morn.
Hundreds seen descend
to sup and then lend.

They seem to share this offering
found under the snow’s covering.
Listen? Joyous chattering.
No longer hibernating.

Ever thankful they sing grateful praise
to their Creator as songs they raise
for God provides their daily bread
as each and everyday they are fed.

Crows are now heard cawing in the distance.
God must have provided them sustenance
for God’s eyes are on each sparrow,
blue jay, cardinal, raven, and crow.

As God is concerned about the least of these,
then certainly He will your needs and wants appease.
In the meantime thank Him for His faithfulness
and in His daily blessings everyday rest.

* * * * *

Thank you, God, for the beautiful snow.
It comes as a blessing bestowed.
Thank you, God, for the birds that teach me
everyday your faithfulness to see.

Do not worry, saying,
What shall we eat?’
or ‘What shall we drink?’or ‘What shall we wear’…
your heavenly Father knows that you need them.
Matthew 6:31-32

Adoration Praying

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth,
as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
forever. Amen.

Matthew 6:9-13

Adoration Praying

Prayer is often expressed regarding requests or petitions.
Today we'll learn another way to pray - a prayer of adoration.
The Lord's prayer in Matthew 6 will be given as an example -
concentrating on its 5 points, using our 5 fingers as a model.

The basis of prayer is to worship
through growing our personal relationship.
By giving God glory for who He is,
we mature in what we know about who God is.

1. Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.

God, who is our personal Creator,
longs to be our personal Father.
Our Father...hallowed be Your name.
There are many facets to God's name:

as this verse reminds us, God is Holy.
His ways are true and pure - always, only.
His name is to be revered or worshiped,
not taken in vain as commonly heard.

He is our God Who Sees Us, our Healer,
Immanuel or God With Us, our Provider,
our Peace, our Rock,
our Shepherd, our Hope.

Isaiah uses these names for God:
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Prince of Peace, Everlasting Father.
And just think, God had a plan to become our Savior!

When you pray, thank and praise God for His names.
Just saying God's hallowed, holy names,
brings blessed peace, assurance, and comfort
to whatever causes turmoil or hurt.

How great is the love the Father has lavished on us,
that we should be called children of God!
And that is what we are!
I John 3:1

2. Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth,
as it is in heaven.

Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane, "not my will, but thine be done."
As we mature in our faith journey, one of our daily prayers will become
a prayer for God's will to prevail in our personal life.
Seeking God's will will prevent much anxiety, angst, and strife.

When we pray, we should pray that our desires or will,
including our fickle emotions, line up with God's will.
Our prayers should include thankfulness that God is in control
no matter what daily burdens trouble the soul.

Our God is in control
though troubles may burden your soul
He allows both major and minor
in His perfect harmony... (Andre Crouch)

Thank God that He knows what is best,
even those times that feel like a test.
Those are times when God is maturing you,
growing your faith and developing trust too.

Many are the plans in a man's heart,
but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails.
Proverbs 19:21

3. Give us this day our daily bread.

Thanking God for our daily blessings is another reason to pray.
What an honor to give God, the Creator, glory throughout the day.
The Bible gives us many examples where people prayed and God answered.
The Bible also contains verses that simply state, "Praise the Lord!"

Verses of petition
and verses of adoration.
May our daily prayers be filled with praise and worship,
more so than prayers of constant asking from our lips.

Thanking God comes from a heart of gratitude.
Gratitude greatly affects one's mood.
Others will see our joy
which thankful hearts employ.

Point 3 begins with "Give us."
God's desire is to bless us.
One way is through daily provisions.
Not just our needs, but our wants are given.

We expect others to say "thank you."
What a privilege to tell God "thank you."
God delights to hear from you.
He's waiting to hear your view.

Counting our blessings should be a continual dialog
as we commune each day with our heavenly Father, God.
Our first thought is the morning should be worship or praise
and our last thought before sleep should be thanking God for our day.

The eyes of all look to you,
and you give them their food at the proper time.
You open your hand
and satisfy the desires of every living thing.
Psalm 145:15-16

4. And forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors.

We just learned to praise our giving God for our daily blessings.
Now we'll learn to thank our compassionate God for His gift of forgiving.
When we recall how God has forgiven us,
it will make it easier to forgive and trust.

Point 4 states "forgive us" and "as we forgive."
No one is immune, it means all of us who live.
All of us need daily forgiveness.
Thankfully God is a God of grace.

We are to imitate Christ
by becoming Christ-like.
That means forgiving those who have knowingly and unknowingly wronged us.
It's a matter of the heart, otherwise bitterness will consume us.

The next verse right after the Lord's prayer talks about forgiveness.
Over and over in the OT, God's people asked for forgiveness.
Because God is abounding in love and compassionate,
He graciously forgave each time His people asked.

When was the last time you thanked God for forgiveness?
Or His gifts of endless mercy and amazing grace?
Do we find it easier to worry and complain
or to offer a sacrifice of praise in Jesus name?

But you, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God,
slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.
Psalm 86:15

For if you forgive men when they sin against you,
your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
Matthew 6:14

Let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise -
the fruit of lips that confess his name.
Hebrews 13:15

5. And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

Have you ever thought to thank God for temptations?
Keep on praising God will help you to overcome giving in.
A temptation is an opportunity to prove our faithfulness.
Resist that temptation through prayer, then watch how God will bless.

Remember you are at war
with the enemy of your soul.
God has given you the arsenal needed to win.
Prayer and God's Word will keep you from giving in.

Thank God for His leading,
His Holy Spirit within,
who warns us of dangers
and protects us from trouble.

Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.
James 4:7-8

In conclusion, prayer should become a doxology of praise.
A time to give God glory, for He is the Creator of all our days.
Prayer: a time of worship,
to grow in relationship.

For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
forever. Amen.

For from him
and through him
and to him
are all things.
To him be the glory forever.
Amen.
Romans 11:36

Once we learn the 5 points of adoration,
our every breath will become appreciation
as we daily grow in personal relationship -
developing a lifestyle of an attitude of worship.

Praise the Lord, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits -
who forgives all your sins
and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,
who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagles.

Psalm 103:2-5

You may attest after learning to pray prayers of adoration,
that God will multiply blessing upon blessing.

Spring Fresh

Spring Fresh

Snow has disappeared.
Spring is in the air.
Robins seen zoom,
flowers soon bloom.
Rain pings.
It's spring!

Rain greens the grass
making it grow fast.
The air smells clean
when the grass greens.
Soon dandelions will be seen
adding to the spring-fresh scene.

Spring's fresh perfume
invites bees to zoom
when hidden flower bulbs stretch and yawn
and flowering trees light up the lawn
into a rainbow of delight
scenting the air at first light.

Is it the spring rains that makes the air smell spring fresh?
Or does flower's perfume contribute to the freshness?
When laundry is hung on the line,
how does it then spring-fresh mime?
Irregardless there's a magic about spring
that causes birds and humans to yearly sing.

Here's something we all know:
spring showers and rainbows,
returning songbirds and flowers,
flowering trees all holler -
spring is here!
We all cheer!
* * * * *

The smell of fresh laundry hung on the line
cannot be bottled even if tried.
If fabric softeners try to mimic
they should be outlawed by this cynic
for fabric softener causes me
to become weak in the knees,
red in the face, lose my voice.
As said "outlawed," if my choice.

Do make part of your this year's "go green" theme
a scent-free, environmentally friendly scene.
Everyone will be better off for it
when chemicals you can eliminate.
Look for the green packaging
on unscented product packages.
It's a healthier way of living.
Incorporate the "go green"' adage.

Eliminating man-made scents
is healthy and makes a lot of sense.
Buying organic also makes sense.
Growing your own will save you cents.
What's nicer than tomato plants scent?
You might plant a herb garden of scents
then watch the bees work in the fragrance.
Go use your God-given common sense.

Pay attention to what I say;
listen closely to my words.
Do not let them out of your sight,
keep them within your heart;
for they are life to those who find them
and health to the whole body.
