SKY

 

Sky


When was the last time you daydreamed?

When you took time to look at the scene?

What did you discover

hiding undercover?


Have you looked up high

to view the blue sky?

You'll find there's a lot to discover

under the atmosphere's cover.


You'll find the sky's blue will change

as the four season's change.

In the winter the sky is ofttimes gray, covered with clouds.

Sometimes covered entirely with a dull gray shroud.


However, when the sun shines through

that gray magically turns to blue -

heaven's blue” -

shining through...


as gray dissipates

off into space.

If you take time to look up at the hues

you'll see a beautiful robin's egg blue...


peeking out where there were dull gray clouds

that sometimes turn into white shrouds

of huge puffy marshmallows

as comforting as a pillow.


These are called cumulus clouds,

perhaps the most favored clouds

of which daydreams are made of

floating in the sky above.


Spring often brings nimbus clouds,

otherwise known as rain clouds,

over the mountain

filled with springtime rain.

(The Latin word for rain is nimbus.)


Spring rains from the sky

are welcomed for it's by

these awaited-for spring showers new growth reigns

producing blooming flowers once again.


Sometimes these nimbus clouds

bring noise quite loud,

producing thunder and lightning

sending bystanders for covering.


But on a day with no rain,

a tropical sky reigns

in Caribbean blue

or Pacific blue.


In the distance the sky will appear almost navy blue

as it blends in with the distant mountain's purple hue.

Yes, the sky contains a crayon box of colors in many blue or gray shades,

changing often throughout the day, reflected in spans of water as day cascades.


Come morning you might see stratus clouds

layered in the sky like a blanket of clouds.

Stratus clouds are identifiable as they lie low like fog;

it's as if fog rose from the earth and became a cloud.


If you see a gray blanket in the morning sky,

it's likely a stratus cloud which will dissipate by and by

giving birth to a sunshiny day.

A day to get outside and play.


In the neon blue summer sky,

there might be alto clouds up high.

Alto clouds are identified as many small clouds.

Be sure to look up throughout the day to identify clouds.


You might see thin, wispy clouds.

These are known as cirrus clouds

when the sky is mostly blue

as you daydream under its view.


Cirrus clouds act like a barometer

signifying a change in weather.

Many adults know this to be true

as they grease up in ligament of blue.


As you daydream you'll see silver-lined clouds

as the sun peers from behind the floating clouds

that bring shade throughout the day

in an awe-inspiring display.


Be sure to enjoy the lake blue sky

and the bright sapphire blue sky,

but especially the sky-blue-pink sky

before it turns into a twilight sky.


Later the twilight sky will twinkle

with constellations that are sprinkled

containing stories of make believe

of gods and goddesses crowned with wreaths.


You'll notice that the coming autumn skies

brings the prettiest blue by and by

as blue is opposite orange on the color wheel.

In the northeast, watching the changing leaves is a big deal.


Sapphire blue skies turn to cobalt

as autumn's glorious sunset wrote

rosy orange streaks which glow

and sky watchers are wowed.


The azure sky of an unclouded day.

Enjoy, for soon winter will come to stay

for at least four months in the north

when many gray skies give birth.


It's February 12 as I write this story

watching the sky change in all its glory.

What started out as a dull gray day

has turned into a cumulus cloud day...


with neon blue skies

brightening the sky

as clouds travel from west to east.

Daydreaming brings with it peace.


Lost in the dreamy topaz

as cumulus clouds jazz

across the sky,

how time does fly.


Time goes quickest when I'm writing,

putting words to my daydreaming,

today sharing the names of clouds in the sky

and various colors of blue, oh my.


Do take time to appreciate

the atmosphere's vaporous lake

as floating gases overhead dance,

although that phase possibly lacks romance.


In the meantime, many daydreams lie

in the quickly changing blue-dyed sky

as time goes by – and bye bye.

How wondrous the sky.


The sky, or heaven, named

by those of Biblical fame,

has many true-to-life stories to tell

especially how weather parallels.


Stories for another day.

That's enough for today

for daydreaming has to end

as work waits for this woman.

In the Old Testament a cloud symbolized

God was in the Israelites lives

leading them where they should go

on their destined path, you know.


They were to go onward

when the cloud moved forward

as God was their guide

throughout their lives.


After reading the selected scriptures below

consider the clouds as God's ever-present shadow,

His presence still guiding us

when we believe and trust.


Some of these verses are quite poetic

suggesting that clouds are chariots

on which the Lord himself rides,

I'm sure with a smile wide.


By day the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud

to guide them on their way

and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light,

so that they could travel by day or night.

Exodus 13:21


When Moses went up on the mountain,

the cloud covered it,

and the glory of the Lord settled on Mount Sinai.

For six days the cloud covered the mountain,

and on the seventh day the Lord called to Moses

from within the cloud.

To the Israelites the glory of the Lord

looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain.

Exodus 24:15-17


Then the Lord appeared at the tent in a pillar of cloud,

and the cloud stood over the entrance of the tent.

And the Lord said to Moses...

Deuteronomy 31:15-16


There is no one like God

who rides on the heavens to help you

and on the clouds in his majesty.

The eternal God is your refuge,

and underneath are the everlasting arms.

Deuteronomy 33:26-27


Sing to God, sing praise to his name,

extol him who rides on the clouds -

his name is the Lord -

and rejoice before him.

Psalm 68:4


He makes the clouds his chariot

and rides on the wings of the wind.

Psalm 104:3


See, the Lord rides on a swift cloud.

Isaiah 19:1


The Lord will go before you,

the God of Israel will be your rear guard.

Isaiah 52:12


Let's consider the subject of clouds again

for in the clouds God has another aim.

One day the Lord will return to earth

to gather those who have received new birth.


When He comes He's going to come in the clouds,

although it seems we rarely pay attention to clouds,

just like society rarely pays attention to God.

There seems to be a correlation in those words.


Become a meteorologist by studying the clouds

and develop the habit of giving God glory out loud.

Be ready to join the Lord in the air

when those clouds become heavenly stairs.


At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud

with power and great glory,

Luke 21:27


At that time the sign of the Son of Man

will appear in the sky,

and all the nations of the earth will mourn.

They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky,

with power and great glory.

Matthew 24:30


In the future you will see the Son of Man

sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One

and coming on the clouds of heaven.

Matthew 26:64


After that, we who are still alive and are left,

will be caught up together with them in the clouds

to meet the Lord in the air.

And so we will be with the Lord forever.

I Thessalonians 4:17


Look he is coming with the clouds,

and every eye will see him.

WAITING

 

Waiting


For the beauty of the snow,

piling high in valleys low...

Decorating trees and earth

with a cover of new birth...


Yes, there is beauty in the snow

but there comes a time, you know,

when it seems "enough already!"

as for spring we're more than ready.


Enough of the below zero temperatures.

Enough of being frozen to the core.

Enough of shoveling.

Enough of sniffling.


We're tired of sunless mornings.

We're tired of long, dark evenings.

We're tried of the wait for warmer weather.

We're tired of the wait to feel better.


We can't wait to put away our boots, scarfs, and mittens.

We can't wait to be rid of this weather that sickens.

We can't wait for spring.

We can't wait to garden.


We're quite antsy

which is funny

for we couldn't wait for winter either.

Our minds quite often are halter-skelter.


Though come February

we can't see snow's beauty.

We are weary of this weather.

We seem to think spring is better.


We forget weather is temporary,

as it sometimes makes us contrary.

When winter does give way to spring

we forget there's more work to begin.


Then there'll be something else to complain about.

It's a wonder we don't wear a permanent pout.

Are we ever content?

Or do we just vent?


Enjoy the beauty of the snow

for it's temporary, you know.

In a few weeks the birds will again sing

when they announce it's here – finally: spring!

Bottom line, though,

snow is a gift for

its an insulator

to the plants below.


Without the freezing snow

many bulbs wouldn't show

their brilliant beauty each coming spring

for bulbs need this time for hibernating.


Yes, beauty is found in the snow's offering.

Take a moment to watch it quietly falling.

See it covering the trees,

that is, until there's a breeze.


On sunny days it melts

then puddles come out

to water the earth

wherein lies new birth.


Next month it may be gone

then you'll have to wait long

for snow to return again.

You might find you'll be welcoming!


So enjoy it today.

Make today a play day

for snow is a gift, a present,

then gone when spring is present.


He says to the snow, 'Fall on the earth,'...

so that all men he has made may know his work,

he stops every man from his labor.

The animals take cover;

they remain in their dens.

The tempest comes out from its chamber,

the cold from the driving winds.

The breath of God produces ice,

and the broad waters become frozen.

Job 37:6-10


As the rain and the snow come down from heaven,

and do not return to it without watering the earth

and making it bud and flourish,

so that it yields seed for the sower

and bread for the eater.

Isaiah 55:10


Ask the Lord for rain in the springtime;

it is the Lord who makes the storm clouds.

He gives showers of rain to men,

and plants of the field to everyone.

Zechariah 10:1



Be on the lookout for early morning "blue light" to take photos.

This spruce is now gone due to blight.  Missed.

VALENTINE'S DAY BOUQUET

 

Valentine's Day Bouquet


I'm sending you a bouquet

filled with flowers today

that in their own shy way say

you're loved each and every day.


Your bouquet is filled with

these flowers I chose to give:

as orchids mean beautiful lady,

I chose these for you, beautiful lady.


Red roses that ensure you're loved

by me and by God in heaven above.

These zinnias mean thinking of you

which I find is always nice to do.


A hydrangea to say thanks for all you do.

You are a blessing to others and to me too.

Some daisies for I know you'll act innocent

when someone thanks you for the gift of your presence.


These hibiscus

mean filled with grace

which is seen on your beautiful face

and bestowed on all you embrace.


Tiny blue forget-me-nots do remind me of you

and your faithful friendship to me through the years, so true.

A sunflower will bring uplifting sunshine

even on days when the sun doesn't shine.


Blue and yellow

go so well together

whatever the outside weather

as we’ll be friends through whatever.


Sweet faced pansies for remembrance

of your gentle spirit emoting sweet fragrance.

Surrounded by lily-of-the-valley bringing happiness to you

as I know from time-to-time circumstances make you feel somewhat blue.


Accented with ferns that signify sincerity

and ivy that indicates friendship between you and me.

May this little nosegay

bring you much joy today.


Be sure to give your own bouquet

to those near and far away

for they all need a bright ray

to remind them they're loved, okay?

Flowers in my yard remind me of someone kind

for many were given to me once upon a time.

My friend, Connie, gave me lily-of-the-valley.

Thinking of my dear friend makes me happy.


Pansies were my gram's favorite which I yearly purchase

even though I don't need pansies for remembrance.

A package of zinnias is planted to attract monarchs each year.

You'll find me chasing with camera in hand when they appear.


Next time you see these above-mentioned individual flowers,

may you be reminded of their sincere meanings thereafter.

Not only do flowers beautify planet earth yearly,

they provide nectar for bees producing honey.


Flowers please our senses - our sight, our smell, our touch;

they also speak, silently that is, with an unspoken flounce.

Flowers speak to our hearts with a message of love

direct from God, the Creator, who loves you. Hugs.


We love because he first loved us.

for love comes from God.

GESTATION

 Seeing daffodils popping up yesterday reminded me of this story:

Gestation


After 11 months

we're happy to make a fuss

as it's been a loooonngg wait to see

something that will please you and me.


All through long days or weeks when too much rain came

and other weeks when there wasn't enough rain,

they wait and wait as we count the months down

when this delivery is seen in our town.


For each new birth is something to be celebrated

after we wait and wait through the gestation period.

All through long weeks when it was too hot and humid

we impatiently waited as they silently hid.


Hidden in a dark cocoon,

morning, night, and noon, a womb

protected them

during gestation.


And still they waited,

activity bated,

as it wasn't time

for them to shine.


Through the final months, though,

they waited under snow.

The wait seems like it is taking too long.

Each new day feels like a week prolonged.


This incubation

or hibernation

continues through January

and all through February.


Will this long pregnancy ever end?

Everyone's counting the days until when

this new birth

arrives on earth.


Then one day, through the snow,

new life begins to show.

The 11 months is nearing completion.

It's almost time for their presentation.


Who will be born

one chilly March morn?

Who waited 11 months

and arrives with a fuss?


Tiny white snowdrops

and crocus' will pop,

daffodils add to the array

when spring gives birth this glad day!


Their debut

creates a view

that is worth the wait

no matter which state.


Look for hyacinths,

followed by tulips,

alliums

also blossom.


Celebrate

spring's due date.

A time of rebirth

upon planet earth.

What a long wait to see the newborns!

It seemed like spring would never be born.

Winter’s temperatures and snows repeatedly reappear

despite the calendar’s proclamation year after year.


But after winter is past

spring will begin with a blast:

a celebration, a show, a gala

with brightly colored flowers.


They couldn’t wait to unfurl

from under the earth’s furrow.

They couldn’t wait to bring forth hope

for spring is a season of hope.


A season of hopefulness, of new beginnings.

A time of anticipation and expectation.

A confident assurance that God keeps His promises.

Biblical hope is much, much more than simply a wish.


Remember God’s definition of hope: confident assurance -

for God works in the background, despite outward appearance.

Partnered with faith and trust, hope inspires our spirit and soul.

Spring is the season of hope; paired with faith and trust we grow.


See! The winter is past;

the rains are over and gone.

Flowers appear on the earth.

Song of Songs 2:11-12


I went down to the grove of nut trees

to look at the new growth in the valley,

to see if the vines had budded

or the pomegranates were in bloom.

We wait in hope for the Lord;

he is our help and our shield.

HEARTS

 

Hearts

God loves you!

Yes, it’s true.

And He has sent reminders, anew,

growing in our gardens as clues.


In the morning these reminders may be covered with dew.

Some of these lovely reminders have flowers of blue.

Wild violets contain a clue

that God does love me and you.


There are reminders found in leaves of sunflowers viewed.

Even the shape of the cone flower leaf contains a clue.

Perennial forget-me-nots send the same message, it’s true.

The leaves of brown-eyed susans also sprout this loving clue.


Elephant ears and caladiums are a few

large leaves from bulbs that yearly debut

as daily reminders for you,

for we all need reminders anew.


What do these plants, so different, have in common, they do,

though their flowers may be yellow, gold, pink, purple, or blue?

Each heart-shaped leaf is a valentine just for you –

a daily reminder that God loves us, it’s true.


Did God purposely plan, did He construe,

for heart-shaped leaves to remind me and you

that He loves us through and through?

Never doubt God loves you. It’s true.


Take a stroll around your yard to review

other heart-shaped leaves that grew

as a reminder that God loves you,

then be sure to tell the Lord “thank you.”

Love is who God is.

Pure love, that is.

God’s love for us

gave us Jesus.


Jesus, God’s Son,

His beloved One,

our redeeming substitute

from a life destitute.


It was love for you and me

that sent Jesus to the tree

where He died to give us liberty

there on the cross of Calvary.


Liberty, our freedom,

from a lifetime of sins.

Not ever earned, but free,

as Jesus paid the fee.


Simply believe

then receive

God’s loving plan of redemption

offering eternal salvation.


Greater love has no one than this,

that he lay down his life for his friends.

John 15:13


This is how we know what love is:

Jesus Christ lad down his life for us.

I John 3:16


This is love; not that we loved God,

but that he loved us and sent his Son

as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

I John 4:10


God demonstrates his own love for us in this:

while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 5:8


How great is the love the Father has lavished on us,

that we should be called children of God!

And that is what we are!
