WHAT HAPPENED?
Yesterday spring began.
The sun shone bright once
again.
Robin red-breast sang.
Daffodils finally sprang.
Today winter returned
early in the morn.
Winter coats again worn
by youngsters and those
grown.
Though the sun is shining
bright
today temperatures feel
like night.
It doesn't seem quite
right.
We long for spring's
delights.
We count the days to
spring
then winter comes again
when the cold north wind
and icy snowflakes ping.
Spring waits while winter
holds on.
Even the birds are gone.
Ice is seen on the pond.
There are no ducks upon.
Spring has taken a back
seat.
Today no robins are heard
tweet.
Perhaps because they have
cold feet
or maybe the earthworms
went deep.
Spring will awaken
but first it must open
both its eyes again
to see the robins...
who open their wings and
fly across the land
with the "good news" that
spring is here again
delighting men, women and
children.
When you see the robins,
spring is here once again.

Each day in January is one
day closer to spring!
We can't wait for the
delights spring promises to bring.
The sun shines bright
melting the white
snow that fell
in the dell.
(Just a couple of months
ago we were excited to see
last season's first
snowflakes fall on the evergreen tree.)
Temperatures will warm
and songbirds will return.
Bulbs sprout
wanting out
of the brown earth
to give birth
to a rainbow of flowers
fed by a warm spring
shower.
The air smells fresh and
clean.
Daffodils and tulips
preen.
Gardeners can't wait to
dig in
the soil in their garden.
Five months ago they put
their gardens to bed.
Now it's time to begin
removing what's dead.
A cycle of life completed
over the winter
with new life ready to
being all over.
Such it is with humans too.
Everyday there's something
new.
There also might be the
end of something
as no one knows what a day
will bring.
Some have come to the end
of life
while this year new ones
will begin life.
Planned in the beginning
by God, who is our Creator,
who gives us seasons in
life – spring, summer, autumn, and winter.
For, lo, the winter is
past, the rain is over and gone;
The flowers appear on
the earth;
the time of the singing
of birds is come,
and the voice of the
turtle dove is heard in our land.
Song of Songs
2:11-12(KJV)
I will send you rain in
its season,
and the ground will
yield its crops
and the tress of the
field their fruit.
Leviticus 26:4
The Spirit of God has
made me;
the breath of the
Almighty gives me life.
Job 33:4
There is a time for
everything,
and a season for every
activity under heaven:
a time to be born and a
time to die,
a time to plant and a
time to uproot...
Ecclesiastes 3:1-2
Though mid-February, the snow is melting today.
Noticed bluebirds house cleaning this morning.
That is, both mama and papa working together.
We're not the only ones anxious for spring.
