Perhaps you've heard the story told
about the illusive pot of gold
found at rainbow's end.
It is true, my friend.
My little plot on planet earth
where I often dig in the dirt
when flowers and vegetables I tend
has been nicknamed by me "Rainbow's End".
My Rainbow's End includes
colorful flowers and food:
red geraniums and red tomatoes,
orange lilies and orange carrots down by my toes.
Yellow coreopsis and yellow summer squash,
green hostas and green pole beans grown next to the squash.
Blue forget-me-nots and blueberries I once did plant,
two purple butterfly bushes and purple eggplant.
This rainbow changes
as the season changes.
Later in the summer there's a rainbow of zinnias
enticing a rainbow of butterflies from afar.
Late fall another rainbow is seen
when Jack Frost changes leaves of green
to shades of orange and amber hues
and the sky is the bluest blue.
So where's the gold?
If truth be told
it's in the vegetable garden
filled with golden blossoms.
Sunny summer mornings butternuts,
zucchini, summer squash, and buttercups
fill the vegetable garden with pots of gold
where bees are found seeking pollen of gold.
Priceless, these trumpet-shaped golden pots.
Too many to count - there's a lot.
Precious to me and my beloved bees.
These pots of gold please the bees and me.

That ever illusive pot of gold
sought after by millions untold.
Money in the bank, so to speak,
strived for week after week until weak.
On plant earth materialism seems to describe
if one is rich, as in wealthy, or not, in the world's eyes.
The focus being on owning more
though God has something better in store.
What could be more valuable than gold?
Long life and honor according to God's Word.
Who receives honor? Those with wisdom.
They also gain understanding.
Wisdom offers joy and peace resulting in health.
As you can see, wisdom is much better than wealth.
Wisdom bestows emotional peace
and you'll find financial burdens cease.
Those who seek after wisdom are content
for God has a plan that is heaven sent.
They've learned that God is faithful
and they are ever grateful.
The secret to contentment is not in owning more,
it's in recognizing God's blessing which daily pour.
Yes, our loving God knows what is best for us.
Wisdom is granted when we learn to trust.
Blessed is the man who finds wisdom,
the man who gains understanding,
for she is more profitable than silver
and yields better returns than gold.
She is more precious than rubies;
nothing you desire can compare with her.
Long life is in her right hand;
in her left hand are riches and honor.
Her ways are pleasant ways
and all her paths are peace.
She is a tree of life to those who embrace her;
those who lay hold of her will be blessed.
Proverbs 3:13-18
This reminds me of a line in a song "I'd rather have Jesus then Silver or Gold." We always have HIS love and word to hide in our hearts. That is something that can never be bought. It is given freely. What a wonderful gift. Money is nice and helps pay or bills and some luxuries, but GOD that supplies our needs according to HIS riches in Glory will walk beside us each step and guide us along the way, as long as we let HIM and we will forevermore be with HIM in the land of Milk and Honey and "Where we will never grow old" and waling those streets of gold.
ReplyDeleteThank you for reminding me of that hymn, Anita. You are an inspiration!
