Garden Tour 6/20/18

Season's first bloom this morning.
A bright spot this sunless day.

Hydrangeas soon:

This one is lacecap.  It doesn't form a puff ball.
Scented, which pollinators love.

Blue hosta in bloom:

Two extraordinary hot days have sunburnt this blue hosta.

Helliopsis about ready to bloom.
Will bloom until frost.

The last of this year's peonies:

First campanula:

Black caps.  Will be harvesting soon:

Feverfew:

Milkweed almost ready to bloom.
Sweet scent.

Love lies bleeding.  TY Ruby.

Verbascum, considered a weed, pretty so I keep it around.

Rose campion.  TY Leslie.

Sundrops on this sunless day:

This clematis surprised me this morning:

Roses have been bountiful this season:

 Rosehips.

Calla Lily.  TY Helen.

Lupines going to seed.
I collect various seeds to hand out at book signings, etc.

Gardening produces blood, sweat, and tears.
I should have sprayed deer deterrent, that was purchased Monday, last night.
Does not pay to procrastinate.

Just sprayed deer deterrent here and there on what deer seem to like best.
They had avoided the hostas last night.
Perhaps they remembered the hostas were sprayed in the past.
Smelly fresh air tonight.
Also combated red lily beetles - again.  Gross!
The un-joys of gardening.

Popped in more snow peas as only found two sprouted.
Also more beets and chard as previous planting sparse.
Though weeded vegetable garden yesterday,
today's humidity popped up more weeds than were evident yesterday.
It's true.

A farmer went out to sow his seed.
As he was scattering the seed,
some fell along the path,
and the birds came and ate it up.
Some fell on rocky places,
where it did not have much soil.
It sprang up quickly,
because the soil was shallow.
But when the sun came up,
the plants were scorched,
and they withered because they had no root.
Other seed fell among thorns,
which grew up and choked the plants.
Still other seed fell on good soil,
were it produced a crop -
a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.
Matthew 13:3-9
