Tuesday'sParty

A productive day:

Harvested and preserved all morning - including currant jelly, meat sauce with homegrown peppers simmered away, froze just-picked pole beans, grated 12 cups of zucchini for chocolate zucchini cupcakes tomorrow (in anticipation of a party) and froze for the future.  (Recipe on this blog.)  Then a mountain of dishes were washed.

Trimmed trees this afternoon.  Thanks for your help, Cade.  Shared more zucchini.  Neighbor shared yellow squash and blackberries with me.  Thanks Diana.  Will be making vegetable gravy from the summer squash tomorrow.  (Cook sliced summer squash with sliced onions, garlic, and sage in chicken broth.  Puree.  Freeze.  When ready to use for pot pies, heat and stir in a slurry made from flour or corn starch.)

Many monarchs this afternoon.  They spent most of the afternoon chasing each other.  I spent more than an hour chasing them and finally managed a couple of shots.

This first one with the hole in her wing would not share for anything.  Thought she would tire and need to rest after awhile.  Finally captured photo by standing behind the angel trumpet.

Just when I was going to give up.  This second one with the torn wings was most cooperative.

This angel trumpet was the first photo of today:

Wondering if I have fall-bearing strawberries:

This rose Rose of Sharon was in all it's glory today, with lots more buds forthcoming.

This is the day the Lord has made.
Let us rejoice and be glad in it!
Psalm 118:24

Deer visited the last two evenings (after all, life is a garden party),
even knocking over the electric fence.
They seemed to favor the caladiums and morning glories.
Still need to spray deer-terent tonight.
